PVAC is a coalition of health professionals and institutions, community groups and residents, public health organizations, municipal and state agencies, academic institutions, schools, day care, housing and environmental groups committed to improving asthma and environmental conditions that affect health in Western Mass.

1. Our focus is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families and communities with asthma.
2. Major emphasis on policy, environmental and systems change, and strategies leading to behavior change that will improve the quality of life for individuals, families and communities with asthma, thus resulting in healthier behaviors based on good decisions
3. Sustainable activities and initiatives will be developed, monitored and evaluated
4. Impact will be local, regional and statewide
5. Target populations are communities with high asthma rates and asthma health disparities
6. Common associated risk factors will be addressed in our activities and initiatives such as smoking, obesity and environmental exposures and the impact these risk factors have on increasing the severity of asthma
7. Will actively involve community members in the coalition to ensure a community voice in the coalition’s work and develop a structure that ensures community input
8. Will create an accepting, inclusive environment in the coalition and at PVAC meetings so that people are comfortable sharing their ideas, thoughts and perceptions and are actively encouraged to do so.
