PVAC is a coalition of health professionals and institutions, community groups and residents, public health organizations, municipal and state agencies, academic institutions, schools, day care, housing and environmental groups committed to improving  asthma and environmental conditions that affect health in Western Mass.

Healthy Homes Training For home visitors

Learn to coach children and older adults with asthma to reduce environmental triggers in their homes

Who Should Attend:  Community health workers, health educators, public health nurses, visiting nurses, child care visitors--any outreach workers who visit children or older adults in their homes

DEADLINE for registration: April 17, 2014

Registration is limited—priority will go to those who do home visiting with children or older adults with asthma.

Training goals:
This training will teach home visitors how to provide healthy homes information to families of children with asthma or older adults with asthma.   Home visitors will learn to provide one-on-one and large group education on healthy homes for people with asthma, provide general advice about specific healthy homes problems, and be able to recommend healthy homes approaches to be taken by families, landlords and other community members. David Turcotte is Research Professor in the Department of Economics and Director of the Lowell Healthy Homes Program and New England Healthy Homes Training Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  He is Principal Investigator/Director of  HUD funded Asthma Interventions in Public and Assisted Multifamily Housing Program and Healthy Homes Technical Studies Program grants and has administered several environmental health projects, including an EPA funded initiative to protect children’s health and a previous HUD funded Healthy Homes Demonstration Program grant.  David chairs the Massachusetts Asthma Action Partnership and its Healthy Housing Committee and is a member of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Older Adult with Asthma Taskforce.  He has conducted numerous healthy homes training courses over the last 12 years and holds a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Work Environment Policy/Pollution Prevention/Cleaner Production.

This National Center for Healthy Housing course is approved for 6.0 contact hours  by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Approval valid through 8/20/2015. Assigned ONA #16393.
